On Sunday 11th September 4,000 cyclists embarked on their 54 mile challenge beginning in Clapham Common and finishing on the sunny Brighton seafront. Our cyclists set off as the sun began to rise over the common, with everyone in high spirits and ready to take on their adventure! They were soon on their way out of London and into the picturesque countryside.
Once our cyclists completed the first 29 miles they had a chance to refuel and take a much deserved rest at our lunch stop where they could devour lots of yummy treats to help them get through the second leg of the challenge! It was a lovely spot where everyone could relax for a little while under the shining sun as they digested their free buffet lunch and caught up with their fellow cyclists!
Along our route we had a ‘tiny’ hill, the famous Ditchling Beacon, which was conquered by many as their sheer determination and ambition kept them pedaling up that mile long slope. It was so inspiring to see all of our cyclists reach the top! We hoped the incredible view was worth it 😉
A few miles on from Ditchling Beacon our cyclists soon met the finish line as the sun beamed down on the sea. Spectators, charities and Skyline staff awaited the cyclists and cheered them on for their final stretch. The atmosphere and energy of the event was truly unforgettable!
We had over 300 different charities represented on the day, which is fantastic, and it was a great mix of different causes.
Our brilliant Charities of the Year were Alzheimer’s Society, Great Ormond Street, Josh Carrick Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis, Multiple Sclerosis Society and St. Helena’s Hospice and it was wonderful to have each of them and all of their supporters there on the day!
The hard work and determination that every one of our cyclists showed was so remarkable with each going above and beyond their fundraising targets and helping to raise much needed funds for the charities involved and because of all of their fantastic efforts they have helped raised a STAGGERING £1 million – which is absolutely amazing!
Once again, we would like to congratulate all of our cyclists who took part in this challenge and we hope to see you on another one of our events soon.
