4 Tips To Keep You Focused This Winter!

As the evenings draw to a close earlier and the mornings begin to get darker, it can be a very difficult time of year to stay focused on your exercise and training plans. We all know that feeling when the alarm goes off at an unforgiving hour in the morning for that run or cycle and you just hit snooze, or plans of going to the gym after work begin to dwindle post 3pm. The key to keeping focused is changing your mind-set and how you approach your exercise regime. Here are 4 tips to help you stay focused and motivated.

Plan ahead

The best way to stay on track is by being organised and prepared. If you are aiming to go for a run in the morning, make sure you have everything ready and waiting so you can jump straight into your gym gear and head out. The more time you have to think about something, the more time you have to talk yourself out of it. Training your mind is very important, we may dread the thought of going to the gym or for that cycle, but once we have done it we feel so much better for it. This feeling post workout is what you need to remember when you are thinking about missing a session – you will always feel so much better!

Book a challenge

There is no better incentive to get outside and start running, cycling etc than booking on to a challenge. This gives you an aim and focus to get yourself out of bed early in the morning, or head to the gym after work. When you have something to work towards you can really concentrate on your goal, giving you that drive to keep on going. You can begin to set yourself little goals in your training plan too so you know you are pushing yourself so it continues to challenge you and not become boring.

Get a buddy

Having a workout buddy can really help and support you in your journey as you can keep each other going. Offering each other the social side of exercising and creating a fun attitude will keep you motivated. You can set yourself weekly goals which you each need to fulfill, having this sort of motive will  keep you involved in your training and works to your own speed and ability.

Revamp your playlist

Music is a massive factor in keeping you in the zone and giving your workout the boost that it needs. Make a few different playlists so you mix things up and do not get bored of what you are listening to. If there is a particular mile you struggle with on your cycle ride, have that upbeat song ready and waiting to keep you going! If your music does not stimulate you then your workout is not going to be the best it can be.
