Sheryl’s Story

In April 2014 I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Rosie. Having battled for many years undergoing many diagnostic tests and attending a ridiculous amount of appointments, Rosie was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Rosie has already endured many challenges that most of us don’t go through in our lifetime. Despite her physical/ verbal limitations, Rosie has shown me determination, happiness, bravery and strength beyond belief.

She truly is my inspiration and has made me stronger than I ever thought possible. I wanted to do something completely out of my comfort zone to show Rosie that we will continue being strong together and will never let obstacles get in our way. So, what better way than to get thrown out of a plane 13,000 ft in the air! I am petrified of heights and this was a massive deal to me.

The whole skydiving experience was a roller-coaster of emotions, mirroring what everyday life can be like for people suffering their own personal challenges. I was filled with a lot of anticipation whilst waiting for the weather conditions to be right for the jump, and also the thought of setting foot onto the plane and reaching a height of 13,000ft becoming a reality!

It was an experience I couldn’t really ‘prepare’ myself for and this was hard to get my head (and nerves) around. It was an incredible challenge and something I never thought I would do. My ultimate goal for completing this skydive was to put my fear of heights to one side, prove to my daughter and family that we will get through anything that life throws our way, and to raise funds and awareness for the charity SCOPE.

Hopefully it will inspire people that anyone can overcome their fears and just do it!!
